Description:
Camp Shanks, built in 1942 originally encompassed 1,300 acres and 2,500 buildings. From here, 1.3 million soldiers departed for North Africa and Europe during World War II. The camp also housed prisoners of war. Today, a single Quonset hut houses a museum in the recreated barracks.
Collections: Memorabilia, camp model, vintage training films.

Description: The birthplace and boyhood home of realist painter Edward Hopper was built in 1858.
Edward Hopper was born here in 1882, graduated from Nyack High School and is buried in Nyack’s Oak Hill Cemetery. The house and garden have been restored.

programs.

Description:
The DeWint House, built in 1700 by Daniel De Clark, is the oldest surviving home in Rockland County. The house served as Washington’s Headquarters four times during the Revolutionary War. It was here in 1783, that Washington met with the British Commander Sir Guy Carleton. At present, it is owned and operated by the Grand Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York.
Collections:
Collections revolve around the theme of George Washington, the General, the Man, the Mason and the President. Pictures, maps, archaeological artifacts; 18th century furniture throughout the DeWint House; samples of wood, dated 1699 used in construction.

The Archives was established in 1987 in an effort to meet the growing need for space in the county. Description: Stony Point Battlefield is one of the few preserved grounds of the Revolutionary War in
the Hudson Valley and is the site of a daring midnight assault by the American Corps of Light Infantry against a British garrison in July 1779. It is also the location of the oldest lighthouse on the Hudson,
restored and re-lighted in October 1995.
Collections:
Original weapons captured during the battle and extensive military archaeological collection from the site. Small collection of Stony Point Lighthouse related objects. Very limited archival collection of the battle, lighthouse and history of historic site. Very limited early 20th century images of the battlefield & lighthouse, 1979 stereoscopes of the lighthouse and adjacent area. Of particular interest is a model based on a map of the battlefield drawn by Lt. William Marshall, a British officer who was captured by the Americans.

Built on a bluff overlooking the Hudson River, Trailside Museums and Wildlife Center is comprised of four comprehensive museum buildings (Local Reptiles, Amphibians & fist; Geology Museum; History Museum; Nature Study Museum) and the Bear Mountain Zoo, connected by the oldest continually-operated nature trail the United States.
