Description:
LHC is a regional service agency providing professional training, networking and technical assistance support to museums, historical sites and societies, archives, libraries, their staffs, boards and their communities along with municipal historians in the lower Hudson Valley counties of Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, Westchester, and the Metropolitan New York area. Services and programs are available to members and the public, to enhance cooperation and heighten professionalism among the keepers of historical collections and the interpreters of cultural heritage.
Programs: Workshops and “Handling History” seminars on practical collections care, museum management, policy development and access to regional heritage.
LHC administers the New York State Archives Documentary Heritage Program for the Hudson Valley and the New York State Council for the Arts’ Conservation Treatment Grant program. Description: Lyndhurst is a Gothic Revival mansion designed by A.J. Davis. Three families shaped it during more than a century, the Pauldings, Merritts, and Goulds. The
mansion, surrounded by 14 buildings on 67 acres, overlooks the Hudson River. It is a property of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The continued mission of the Society is to bring research, education and interest in our local heritage to the greater Mamaroneck community. The Society develops a wide range of outreach programs covering regional, as well as local topics, the award winning television series Time and Again and the celebrated Down Memory Lane programs have solid appeal to the Town’s diverse community. As the lead historical society in the founding of the Regional Sound Shore Historical Coalition, the Society has established itself as a renowned advocacy group for preservation efforts throughout Westchester County.

Description: The Society was charted to discover, collect, preserve and
communicate the history of the Town of New Castle. The Horace Greeley House, the Greeley family’s country home from 1864-1872, is the headquarters for the Society’s programs, exhibits on the Horace Greeley era
as well as rotating exhibits, and extensive research resources. The Greeley House provides a handsome example of 19th century architecture as well as having historic significance as the former home of one of the town’s most celebrated residents. The ground floor kitchen features old tools, toys and kitchen items. The grounds are landscaped in a manner consistent with the Horace Greeley era.

Description: The Newington Cropsey Foundation provides an opportunity for the public to share an historical and cultural example of life in the Hudson Valley in the 19th century. It specializes in the life and work of Jasper Francis Cropsey, a leading Hudson River School painter. The Gallery of Art Building, completed in 1994, houses the permanent collection of Jasper Cropsey’s works, along with temporary exhibition galleries, conference rooms and the administrative offices. The entryway “Rotunda” features a 30-foot high, hand-painted ceiling and an inlaid terrazzo floor.
Collections:
Paintings, sketch books, drawings, water colors mostly by Cropsey. The Library collection focuses on Hudson River School painters in general and the Hudson River Valley and Jasper Cropsey in particular.

Originally part of the Jeremiah Sniffens property, the Richard Austin House dates from the 1870s. The Society collects and interprets the history and traditions of Ossining and vicinity. Description: The Herrick House (1875) is a restored Victorian building that was owned by Dwight S.
Herrick, a prominent Peekskill attorney. Designed by W.R. Mead, the House is distinctive for its three parquet-floor patterns on the first level, its family staircase and winding servant’s stairwell, and its
restored second floor bedrooms.
Collections: The museum collects and displays the artifacts of Peekskill from the late 1700s to the present time. One room is devoted to 18th century Peekskill-made iron stoves, another is a Ladies Victorian bedroom. The museum owns the entire film negative collection of the daily newspaper Peekskill
Evening Star (1937-1985).

Description: Philipsburg Manor is a working farm of the 18th century with a water-powered grist mill, live farm animals, and manor house. Description:
The Society was formed to collect, exhibit and make available to the public, information about the history of Pound Ridge and its environs and to bring together those people interested in history and especially the history of Pound Ridge. The building housing the Museum was built in 1853 by the Presbyterian Church of Pound Ridge.
